» Tinman race report (10/12/2009)
After a good 320km cycle the previous weekend and a great week of long miles, I went into this race a little flat and just aimed for a fast training day. I knew that I would have to work hard to stay in front of the young lads hot on my heels.
I had my usually strong swim exiting the water in first place but right behind was a young junior and Mark Bowsted.
Once on the bike I pushed hard from the start and I felt supper strong but struggled with speed and the top gear work.
By the end of the first lap of the bike I had opened up a minute lead over Mark Bowsted when trouble hit. I had gone over a speed hump, heard a crack and in the next instant my wheel was bent over rubbing against the frame, I stopped to fix it and began again only for the same thing to happen at the next speed hump.
I made the decision to return to transition where I had my front training wheel and in doing so lost my lead and was around a minute down when I returned to the race, I pushed hard to claw myself back into contention but full credit to Mark as once he had the lead he dug deep, hung tough and never looked
Back. I did manage to work my self back into 2nd place, although the win would be nice I was happy with how I raced and it served the purpose it needed to heading toward the 'END' goals of the MT Half and NZ Ironman.
