» ITU Asian Long Distance champion (19/06/2009)
To continue on from the last update: I am still very excited after my win on Sunday.  The swim was on the scenic Korean coast, we then headed deep into the Korean mountains climbing 1400m in 80km then running from here through the bush and forest which you could not see as the weather had closed in with rain and clouds.
I was feeling good and fresh heading into the race and could not wait to get out there, I got a great beach start and was in the lead straight away in the swim on the first of the 2 laps I found a nice rhythm and waited until the 2nd lap to push hard opening up a 45sec gap to lead out of the water.
Once on the bike I pushed really hard but rode evenly and to my power meter I had my favourite set of wheels on my trusty Zipp 808s and felt strong and powerful as this was a point to point course I did not know where any one was and it wasn't until I started the run where we did a small out and back that I
could see I had about an 8min lead this pumped me up even more as I new the race was now mine to loose...I settled into a nice fast rhythm on the flat and pushed the hills and stretched the legs out on the way down as I tried to maintain my grip over the rocky muddy uneven ground I kept the pressure on in the run until I run out of the bush and up the last hill to the fantastic High 1 resort where I could see no one in sight so I enjoyed the last few hundred meters to the finish line in what has been a long over due return to health and fitness. The last few months have again been a turning point in my career and very hard, but I have done all the work to get back to feeling the satisfaction of winning and to have such a solid performance to win by 8 mins in Korea was a big boost.

Thanks to everyone who has stood by me and kept believing in me as we all have doubts none more so than myself but when you have the vision it is what you cling to when things are difficult.  A vision is intended to inspire people.  A vision is the highest point of achievement you can envisage for yourself and
your team (Sebastian Coe).
I am now in Japan getting ready to race IM Japan on Sunday this is new
terrain for me racing a week later and at this stage the legs are still very tired and sore but my head is in the right place and I am on a high, so I look forward to digging deep and challenging myself again on the weekend .
