Kieran Doe has received a fantastic accolade from his hosts after recently winning Ironman Canada:
My name is Barry Beecroft and I am from Penticton B.C. Canada, the host city for Ironman Canada. My wife Carol and I were the host family for your countryman Kieran Doe of Auckland. The purpose of my letter is to let your country know what a gem you have in Kieran Doe.
He won Ironman Canada this past weekend out of a field of some 2500 plus triathletes. His performance was remarkable as he led the race from start to finish.
He is a true wonderful ambassador for your country, and I would be remiss if I didn't report to you how good a job he did with his speech as he accepted his award at the awards banquet with representation of people from all over the world. It was a full house of some 2000 plus athletes, government officials, major sponsor representatives and Ironman officials from many countries. After the banquet he was very patient with photographers, reporters and fans as he posed for pictures, answered questions and signed autographs.
As a house guest he is welcome back to our home any time as he was very polite and appreciative of our hospitality. It has to be noted that even in winning this prestigious event he was very modest about his accomplishments. He left us all with a wonderful impression of New Zealand people and offered his hospitality to us as well. As a country New Zealand can be very proud of his accomplishments and quiet unassuming ways. I am very confident he will visit the winners circle again in other countries.
Tri NZ would like to thank Kieran for being such a great ambassador for triathlon and New Zealand! |
