Canadian Bentley and Doe of New Zealand claim Penticton Ironman titles



Calgary's Sara Gross was second in 9:41:01 and Edmonton's Heather Fuhr was third in 9:49:36. Victoria's Cheryl Murphy was fifth in 9:59:20.

Kieran Doe of New Zealand took the men's event in 8:32:45.

Jonathan Caron of Buckingham, Que., was second in 8:39:59, while third place went to Calgary's Chris Brown in 8:49:34.

Caron said the second-place finish put him in a good mindset going into the world championships in October.

"I'm getting a lot of confidence," Caron said. "Today was just an amazing day, I just had it, and you get so much confidence, you just believe in yourself.

"I feel great."

Over 2,200 athletes participated in the competition.
