» Winning Ironman Canada (27/08/2007)
To all my supporters and fans,

I cannot believe all the support and congrats I have received after my
win in Ironman Canada on the weekend, it has being truly amazing and I am so
lucky to have so many supporters and cannot thank you all enough, each
one of you can take a piece of this victory as a way of showing my
thanks, and I hope this is the first of many more.

This had being a short but quality build up for me with everything going
right in the last 6 weeks, my taper started two weeks out and I felt
better and better every day. I arrived in Pentiction on the Wednesday
before the race after being in Victoria Canada for 3 weeks before,
training with Simon Whitfield's group coached by Joel. I want to thank
them for accepting me to there squad and making my final preps so easy.

The race...
Things started well for me from the gun I was in the lead and in clear
water straight away, the swim was hard as it was very choppy and hard to
find a rhythm so it was a fight all the way but I kept pushing and
extending my lead, out of the water and onto my bike the voluntaries
made transition life very easy and smooth and the noise from the crowd
was incredible, it was then I realized what I had missed the last 8
months, once out of town I was on my own, just me and the lead car for
the next 4hr30mins, I found my rhythm early and tucked myself down into
a tight aero position and got into my work.

I rode the first 90km very controlled but still hard working the big
hills and the out and back section very hard, coming home the wind was
swirling all over the place, but I stayed very focused on the job ahead,
the only time I saw how much gap I had was on the out and back section,
coming back into town the noise from the crowd that lined the roads was
insane, I still felt fresh and had ridden with in myself and was now
prepared for the run, I run the first 21km to time and a plan and
executed that spot on and felt I had not put out too much effort and
could return just as quick, I had found a great rhythm. On the way back
I saw my lead and new that Jono had taken 6min out of me on the first
21km but I new I had run the first half comfortable so didn't panic with
8km to go he had only made another 30sec and I was still moving nicely,
I new I only had 3-4km to go before the big crowd started and that would
bring me all the way home, the people lined the streets and yelled and
screamed so loud that the last 3km I had goose bumps the whole way, it
wasn't until the last 500m that I broke out into a smile and enjoyed
the moment. It was a feeling that I can not explain but one I'm sure I
will never forget. I had a plan that I had just executed to perfection,
I raced for 8hr30 and stayed incredibly focused the whole time, I had
prepared myself to be alone for the whole day and that's what I did. I
am happy to be back doing what I love and am now enjoying the moment but
can't wait for my next race, I will keep you all posted.

Once again thank you to my princess , friends, family, coaches, sponsors and supporters.

Talk soon doe boy
