Two of the top performers and crowd favourites from this year’s Quelle Challenge Roth are looking forward to competing at the inaugural Challenge Queenstown on 20 Jan 07.

Kiwi professional athlete Kieran Doe has signed a deal with Team Challenge triathlon that will see him racing Challenge Queenstown for the next 2 years, while two-time Challenge Roth Champion Belinda Granger will also make the journey to Queenstown in 2007.
“It’s a great move for the race, and shows that the professional athletes see how great the Queenstown event is going to be”, says Challenge Queenstown Event Director Matt Tuck. “Kieran is excited about the prospect of racing some of the world’s best athletes on his home turf in New Zealand, and I am really happy that Belinda wants to make the journey too”.

The fastest Kiwi over the Ironman distance in recent times, Doe was a full ten minutes faster than Cameron Brown’s best time on the Challenge Roth course this year, and two minutes quicker than Brown’s best ever time over the Ironman distance.“It will be a great race when Doe and Brown finally get to go toe-to-toe over a long distance race – Cameron has some real competition now”, says the Queenstown Event Director.

As part of her commitment to Challenge races, Australian Belinda Granger is also looking
forward to Challenge Queenstown. “Challenge Roth is such a great race”, says the two-time Roth Champion, “for Aussies Queenstown is so close, and such a well known tourist destination, that I am sure a number of them will relish the opportunity of a Challenge race so close to home”.

The team at Challenge Queenstown have confirmed that a strong number of Australian teams and individuals have already entered the race.

In addition, Ironman legend Scott Molina along with coaches Gordo Byrn & John Newsom will bring ‘Epic Camp’ to the South Island of New Zealand in 2007, culminating with a start in Challenge Queenstown.

The camp will take in many of the South Island picture postcards locations such as the alpine triangle, Arthur’s Pass, Franz Josef Glacier and Lake Matheson before reaching the adventure capital of the world, Queenstown.

Here the Epic team will face up to a new ordeal - to complete the Challenge Queenstown Ironman Distance Event at the end of Epic!! There will be options of doing the full event or team options in the inaugural event.“It’s a really exciting time for the team at Challenge Queenstown. We have a steady stream of entries, top professional athletes on board and a handful still to announce, and support from legends like Scott Molina. We are also looking forward to announcing our new title sponsor in the near future”.

“Challenge Queenstown will not be an event to miss”
